The blasphemy law criminalizes insulting the prophet or the Koran, and the apostasy law punishes apostasy from Islam. The respective formulations leave room for arbitrariness, abuse and intrigue, to which Christians fall victim ovewr and over again.

In daily life, Christians face discrimination: in renting apartments, in applying for work and study places, and in access to administrative positions. Christians are among the minorities in the country; their marginalized social position is politically cemented.
