Challenged and blessed

BULGARIA
Spending time with AVC's partner in Bulgaria had a big impact on 23-year-old Benaja. He shared his thoughts in a letter to our project manager after his trip.

"I experienced so much in Bulgaria and learned more than ever before in such a short time. Not everything was easy. The language was a big challenge, as well as many cultural differences. It wasn't always easy for me to share what God had laid on my heart without being offensive.

As a trained bricklayer, I was able to work on various construction projects. Many things were done differently than I was used to. This required patience and flexibility on my part—and that was very rewarding for me.

I was moved to see how strong the traces of communism still are today. Many people view Christianity with great suspicion, and even Christians are often afraid to speak openly about their faith.

Even so, I'm sure God is working in Bulgaria. He uses people as His tools to build His kingdom. That's why I think the work of the AVC partners there is so valuable. You can see that it's making a difference—and I can imagine how many lives have been changed and will be changed by this ministry.

When I arrived, I never thought that this country and its people would grow so dear to my heart. For me, one thing is clear: the Bulgaria chapter is not yet closed.

I am very grateful for this time, for the people who have become my friends and, in some cases, my role models. And I am grateful for everything God has taught me to make his name known – wherever I go in the future.
