India – rich in people

People. People. And more people. Overcrowded cities. Endless slums. Chronic traffic chaos. Filth. Hoards of beggars populate the streets. The level of misery that prevails is immeasurable. The caste system classifies people permanently, promoting the gap between rich and poor, encouraging fatalism and robbing a large proportion of the population of any hope for a better future right from birth.

From freedom to murder and killings

The situation of Christians varies depending on the federal state. In some regions, the church is an integral part of the community, there is absolute freedom and Christians make up the majority of the population. Elsewhere there is an anti-conversion law: Those who turn their back on Hinduism make themselves liable to prosecution and may become the object of aggression, which can involve harassment, rape, expulsion or murder.

Since 1997, AVC has been directly responsible for the establishment of the following projects in India.

Children’s homes

AVC supports four children's homes with 150 orphans and children from poor families.

Primary schools

More than 1200 children are given a school education in eight primary schools with kindergartens and some are provided with food and clothing. The schools are in a number of different regions in India, some of them isolated from civilization, or among former headhunters, or in the slums of large cities.
