A country of strategic significance
If you do not produce enough money in the evening, you will be brutally beaten. This is the fate of countless children in Mali who live on the streets and are forced to beg. Extreme poverty marks the lives of people in Mali and, like everywhere else, it is the defenceless children who are hit hardest. Anyone who has the chance leaves the country, hoping for a better future.
In 2005, AVC founded “Nehemia Mali” (L’Association Néhémie Mali - ANM). The goal is to give hope through the good news of Jesus Christ and practical support.
Children are a country’s future. Anyone who wants to make a contribution towards changing a nation for the better should begin with the little ones. AVC is investing in Mali’s future by means of a variety of projects.
Involvement in a number of areas
Orphanage
In Kanadjiguila, a village 15km west of the capital Bamako, 60 children currently receive shelter and care in an orphanage with an affiliated school. The children learn more than just their ABC. They have an additional privilege that is otherwise seldom found in a Muslim country: They get to know the Bible – and Jesus. As a result, a fast-growing church has developed.
New prospects for the life of the individual
ANM carries out a variety of activities from its office in Bamako in order to give those who have lost hope a new future through a relationship with Jesus.
AVC provides support in distributing Christian literature, presenting the “Jesus Film” and training staff.
Mali’s biggest Christian library is housed in the ANM centre. Visitors have the chance to look into the Christian faith. Young Christians who have been rejected by their families due to their faith can find help at the centre.
Building projects
The Christian community in Bamako enjoys great recognition among the local population. This can be seen from the following example that was quite a sensation: As an expression of their appreciation, the Muslim village elders provided a hectare of land outside the capital of Bamako in order for an additional school to be built with boarding facilities for orphans. A complex for 100 children is planned. The goal is for them to complete school and later also be able to receive professional training.
Mali – a strategic centre
Mali’s churches have great plans for the future that go far beyond the country’s borders. Their goal is to use Mali as a base from which to share their good experiences with the Christian faith with other people in the seven neighbouring countries.
